Leo, the Great King Lion, sat at the head of the grand table which assembled all of Kingdom Animalia.
They gathered for the annual Thanksgiving dinner and prepared for their feast. King Lion announced, “This year, like every year, I am thankful for my family and for the honor of ruling the ever-growing Kingdom Animalia. May we all prosper.” He raised his glass, “To all of you!” and all the animals cheered. The Tiger Family roared, the Gorilla Family beat their chests; it was a loud, magnificent noise.
The lion then did something he never had done before. He opened up to the members of the kingdom and asked them, “And for what else are we thankful for?” There was a long moment of silence. All of the animals were too scared to speak, for how could any of them use eloquent words and articulate like King Lion? Anything they’d say would sound like foolish gibberish compared to their monarch! It was a long silence still. The King then asked, “Do none of you have anything to be thankful for? Do I run an ungrateful kingdom?
Finally, after another long moment of silence, Little Roger from the Rabbit family stood up. The entire kingdom’s eyes sharply turned to him. There was absolute silence as they waited to hear what this bold little creature would say. He uttered, in the faintest high pitched voice, “I’m thankful for my Mommy Rabbit and Poppy Rabbit, and for King Leo! He’s real nice.” Absolute silence followed.
The Great King smiled, took a sip from his cup, and said, “Very well said, Little Roger! The bravest and kindest of all the animals! Now, let us feast!”
